ACTIVITIES OF THE ECONOMIC SECTION:
Medailonek
Ing. Karel Malec, Ph.D. He is an assistant professor at the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics, CULS, Prague, and in his research activities he focuses on commodity markets with a focus on the agricultural sector. In 2016, he defended his dissertation focused on the price development and volatility of selected agricultural commodities. Another area of ??his research is the evaluation of economic efficiency using the methods of financial analysis. He is currently involved in a project mapping the impact of agricultural activity on the water balance in the Czech Republic.
IGA project, solution 2019 – 2021
Název projektu
Economic analysis of the water balance of the current production mix of agricultural commodities in the Czech Republic
The essence of the project (annotation)
The aim of the project is to evaluate the economic and environmental sustainability of the current production mix and sowing procedures in relation to the water balance and the representation of individual crops for a given locality in relation to precipitation totals and changing climatic conditions. The expected benefit is then mapping the situation, proposing possible measures, even with regard to setting up support for agriculture, and determining the economic efficiency of the current situation and proposed changes for Czech farmers.
Research topic
The changing climate, the uneven distribution of precipitation and the associated droughts are very topical and widely discussed topics in the Czech Republic, which are addressed by many top experts. Most research in this area focuses on the effects of drought, declining crop yields, or soil quality and water retention capacity. This project brings a somewhat different perspective on the issue, focusing on evaluating the sustainability of current agricultural practices and their economic efficiency, including in terms of possible changes towards better land management, including adjustment of production mix and sowing practices. The benefits of the project include mapping the situation, proposing possible measures, even in relation to support for agriculture from an economic point of view. The outputs of the project can then be implemented in the final theses and teaching of selected researchers and further developed in follow-up research.
